Public Company Information:

Ultimate Software (Nasdaq: ULTI), a leading provider of human capital management (HCM) solutions in the cloud, announced today that National Gypsum, one of the largest gypsum board producers in the world, is using UltiPro to address key challenges in manufacturing, control costs, and manage its skilled workforce.

National Gypsum operates more than 40 plants, gypsum quarries, and support facilities throughout the United States and Canada. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, it produces gypsum board, drywall-finishing products, and cement board for the residential and commercial construction markets. An Ultimate customer since 2004, National Gypsum launched UltiPro’s talent management solutions in 2015 to facilitate data-driven decision making and better manage the business in a fluctuating market.

“I can say without exaggeration we are creating ad hoc reports daily that look at data such as labor allocation, succession planning, and global demographics,” said Bruce Williams, director of human resources at National Gypsum. “These reports help us adapt to industry conditions, extend key resources, and realize significant savings across our business. Because it is so easy to create reports in UltiPro, we take every opportunity to exploit the solution's report quality and timeliness.”

According to Williams, National Gypsum’s access to real-time reporting is key to success in the manufacturing industry. Although innovation and increased quality are seen as ways to effectively compete, these differentiators can only be achieved by hiring and managing a skilled workforce.

“Many of our manufacturing jobs require highly skilled workers, and we want to avoid talent shortages that might cause jobs to go unfilled for long periods of time,” said Williams. “Thanks to UltiPro’s talent management solutions, we know what skills and talents our employees have—and the positions they’re targeted for—so we can put skilled labor on the ground much faster. This agility in filling and changing positions creates huge advantages for our business and includes the global operations we have in Canada. With UltiPro, we have integrated these international employees into performance and succession management, so they are part of our reporting and planning conversations.”

With UltiPro, National Gypsum is focusing its resources on core production functions and achieving efficiencies with operational improvements in areas such as payroll and benefits administration.

“We are able to keep our headcount down in HR because UltiPro automates so many functions for us, and UltiPro’s user-friendly reporting functionality means we don’t need a team of people to get at that data,” said Williams.

“With UltiPro’s comprehensive talent suite, companies can manage their businesses more effectively and develop their workforces by using the rich data on employees they already have in the core HR solution,” said Greg Swick, chief enterprise sales officer at Ultimate. “We are pleased that UltiPro is helping National Gypsum adapt to industry conditions, maximize its key resources, and realize competitive advantages across its business.”
