Fifteen years ago, Ultimate Software launched with an unusual premise—the creation of a Human Capital Management (HCM) system focused on the users of the software.
We had a strong inkling then that HR software should be “for the people”—everyone from business leaders and managers to HR staff and all other employees. Most companies endeavor today to treat their customers with dignity and respect; we believed then and still do today that they also need to treat their employees the same way.
Our entire business model is founded on the concept of “employees first.” This culture is evident in our own organization and through the products and services we provide. Our leading HCM system is not designed for HR administrators; it’s designed for employees, with easy to use tools, resources and internal support services, freeing HR staff to focus on more strategic human capital needs.
We were right in our assumption that our HR software and the UltiPro solution in the cloud would strike a resounding chord in the marketplace. Our astonishing growth echoes this fact: Fifteen years ago, we had approximately 175,000 employee records in the cloud; today we’re over 35 million. We’re serving over 4000 organizations in over 160 countries with payroll, talent management and HR cloud solutions. With regard to payroll alone, we’re processing more than $339 billion annually. To handle this vast array of data requires more than 33,000 servers, more than five hundred times the servers we operated in 2002.
We’d like to think we’re still at the beginning of the Ultimate Journey. We are constantly upping the ante—adding revolutionary predictive and prescriptive analytics tools such as My Leadership Actions™ and the UltiPro Retention Predictor™, as well as advanced sentiment analysis through UltiPro Perception™. We’re also bridging boundaries across the world, spreading our message of an employee-first culture to more businesses in more countries.
Fifteen years ago, our founder and CEO Scott Scherr said, “The true measure of a company is how it treats its lowest paid employee.” Here at Ultimate Software, we still believe this is the only metric that counts. Walk into our headquarters lobby and you’ll see it on the wall.
