Avoidance and Defense of Sexual Harassment Claims in the Post-Weinstein Era – What HR Leaders Need to Know

Presented by: Hodgson Russ LLP — Partner, Elizabeth D. McPhail

Far from impacting only Hollywood, Washington, and media outlets, sexual harassment in the workplace is a serious matter with the potential to affect companies of all sizes and industries, public and private. Within the landscape of these high-profile cases of sexual harassment, the impact on businesses will likely be significant and costly. In additional to legal fees, settlements, and potential judgments, employers will also have to deal with employment separation issues with higher level management (in certain circumstances when those individuals are the aggressors) and reputation management issues. In light of the public’s renewed focus on this issue, what are the legal and ethical implications for employers, and what can human resource professionals do to help ensure employees remain safe and free of harassment at work? In this presentation, Elizabeth D. McPhail, labor and employment law attorney and partner at Hodgson Russ LLP, will discuss what every organization needs to know about minimizing the risk of sexual harassment in the workplace.

The What and How of Career and Performance Management—Courageous Conversations to Get Team Members Back on Track

Presented by: Five Ways Forward, LLC — President, Colin T. McLetchie

Real performance management is a culture-infused way of being between leaders and employees. It cultivates—nay, requires—leaders to have open, constructive, and honest dialogue with team members about their performance, on an ongoing, consistent basis, seeking to help employees understand “this is how you’re perceived, this is what’s working, this is where you’re struggling, and this is where we see you headed.” Careers get derailed when leaders don’t talk frankly about the “how” things get done. During this session, you’ll discover that the way you start these courageous conversations is critical to success. Using preparation and feedback, you’ll learn to start reinforcing the value of employees and their contributions, and much more.
