Kentucky Occupation Taxes
Finding resources regarding Kentucky Occupation taxes can be a hassle. Now the KSCPA (Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants) has a Web site that may help: http://www.kycpa.org
Keep in mind that this Web site is compiled by an organization outside of the tax jurisdiction. Caution is needed with reviewing the data. But the site should be used to point yourself in the right direction for local tax information.
Tax Information Note
It's always hard to keep track of local taxes, especially if the rate has changed. The Taxation Committee Kentucky Society of CPAs has compiled a listing of Kentucky communities that impose an occupational tax. Currently, the Society has a listing showing all the communities, tax rates, and whom to contact. The data contained in this listing is based upon information provided by the individual local authorities and should be used for informational purposes only. For complete details and forms, the taxing authority should be contacted directly. If you would like a copy of this list, please contact:

Louisville and Jefferson counties
Many employers have a misunderstanding on what should be withheld for the City of Louisville, which is located in Jefferson County. There are actually four different occupational license fees collected by the Revenue Commission:
• The City of Louisville license fee, 1.25%
• The Jefferson County license fee, 1.25%
• The School Boards license fee, .75% (imposed only on Jefferson County residents)
• The Transit Authority of River City (TARC) license fee, 0.2%
There is a 100% credit against the Jefferson County license fee for any sum paid as a City of Louisville license fee. In this case, the total license fee imposed by the City of Louisville, Jefferson County, TARC, and the School Boards is 2.2% of all wages, salaries, commissions, and other compensation earned by employees (except employees who are nonresidents of Jefferson County who are exempted from the School Board license fee. The rate is therefore 1.45%.).
