IRS Penalties for Mismatched Forms W-2 |
 |
The Internal Revenue Service currently assesses penalties to employers who file Forms W-2 with mismatched names and Social Security numbers. Starting in June 2004 for the tax year 2002 W-2s, notices of the penalty were issued. The penalty is $50 per incorrect form.
The reason for this is that the Social Security Administration has identified the mismatch problems of the name not matching the number as a main problem for wages not being recorded properly for the employee. |
